Comparison and Control

Today I am using the Osho Zen tarot deck to get some insight into the energies of the day.

The first card is Comparison and this would be the Five of Swords in a traditional tarot deck. The picture shows the barks of the oak and the bamboo, representative of two extremes that we often tend to compare and contrast in life. But is it fair to compare? What purpose does it solve? How does it empower and inform the oak tree to compare itself to the bamboo and vice versa? Basically, comparisons are futile and lead us into two extremes of thought and perception of ourselves - as the victor or the vanquished. Traditional depiction of this card shows a picture of both victory and loss. It tells you to identify yourself. Do you believe you have won? Or do you wallow in self pity thinking you have lost? Look again for often our victories are hollow, meaningless. And often our losses make us rich in wisdom and experience. Only you can define your life as a success or a failure depending on how you see it, whether you focus on what you have or worry about what you don't. Try not to get stuck by negative thinking today. Focus on your goal and make one if you don't have it yet. Comparison with others is an unnecessary distraction in the spiritual journey of your soul so take it as an opportunity to recognize and appreciate your unique abilities and walk away from feelings of resentment or self pity at someone else's good fortune. Who knows what lies beneath the glitter? We all have our constant little battles with life no matter how privileged we may seem so stop comparing your lot with others today and let go of things that are not worth holding on to.

The other card is Control and this is the King of Swords in a traditional tarot deck. The figure shown in the image is in total control of his life. He is organised and logical, decisive and intelligent and has full confidence in his ability to think his way out of any issues. But he is also trapped by his mind and so constrained by the confines of logic and rational thinking that there is no outlet for emotional expression. It leaves one wondering about the whole aspect of control. Who is controlling whom? The man in control of the mind or the mind controlling the man? Too much emphasis on logic and intellectual expression can often lead us into denying or repressing our emotions. We try hard to be fair and on the side of truth by always doing the right thing and yet, happiness is as elusive as we thought it would be if we didn't keep ourself in tight control. Remember logic can explain a lot of things but it can also fail at times. And that gap can be filled by emotions and feelings. When things cannot be expressed rationally, they need to be felt and emotionally experienced. That is the way to freedom. Try and recognize the areas in your life where too much control has led to entrapment. Try and recognize the gentle power of feeling your way through some special moments even if they do not seem to make sense logically.

There's an excess of air energy today which means thoughts, analysis, mental processes and communication will be in focus. Remember true empowerment will come from integrating all aspects of your life so temper any excess in thought energy with some emotional responses today.

Three of Rods and the Page of Swords

Today I am using the Anna K Tarot deck to get some insights into the opportunities and challenges we might experience during the course of the day.

The first card is the Three of Rods and this is a wonderfully apt card for opportunities of all sorts. You are driven by a strong primal urge for action and exploration. Astrologically, this is a representation of Sun in the zodiac sign of Aries, associated with all kinds of initiatives and grand plans. There is fiery passion in your heart to achieve your goals and your enthusiasm is inspiring. If you are awaiting the result of any endeavour you can rest assured it will be positive. You are fearless, magnetic and adventurous today with plans of expansion and a long term vision on your mind. Experiences will be enhanced by your confidence and exuberance. Professional and personal successes, whether big or small, seem not only possible but quite real now as you make future goals. Put this high energy to good use today and aim big.

The other card is the Page of Swords and this is a different energy to the Three of Rods. Pages represent potential and opportunities for growth but they are an immature form of energy that needs time and resources to develop. Swords are connected with the mental and intellectual realm and represent the energy of thoughts and communication. One of the challenges of this card is to direct the raw mental force of your thoughts in a mature and focused manner. Avoid rushing into things about which you have incomplete information. Trust experience and intuition more than half baked logical assumptions. Avoid being too judgemental or hastily drawing a conclusion. Take some time to ponder over the long term consequences of your actions and avoid being too direct or blunt when dealing with people, especially superiors. If this attitude is shown by someone else try not to take them seriously and do not let them distract you from your goal.

Overall the day brings some strong, active energies and opportunities for growth. The power of your thoughts and goal directed action will help you to manifest all that you desire. Have a great day!

Empress and the King of Wands

I am using the Crystal Visions tarot deck to get some insights into the opportunities and challenges we might experience today.

The first card is the Empress and this shows a lot of abundance in your life right now or a feeling of abundance that gives you confidence and self assurance. You feel blessed and privileged to have whatever assets you have and it gives you a sense of control over your life. This is a very good card for material success and good health. You also have a lot of creative power within you to manifest your desires. Astrologically the card represents Venus which is the planet of good luck. You are in charge today and because things seem to be moving in the right direction you don't feel the need to prove yourself to anyone or do a lot of hard work to get what you want. You seem to attract opportunities just by being yourself and feeling at ease. And opportunities, especially work related or any creative endeavours abound today. Your responses and reactions are passionate, earthy, warm and life affirming. Make good use of this energy and enjoy the abundance surounding you.

The second card is the King of Wands and this energy compliments that of the Empress on many levels. However, it represents the element of Fire and may need the grounding, earthy energy of the Empress to truly balance it. You could be passionate today with regards to professional or personal matters, especially those close to your heart and your reactions may come across as too strong for some people. If you are in a leadership position you may have to deal with a bit of resentment or rebelliousness from your team members. One on one relationships would be intense so try and keep your cool when communication involves difficult issues. You are assertive, confident and very sure that what you are doing is right for others but they may see it differently so try and give logical reasons for what you propose today instead of driving people with passion towards your goal. In case you are dealing with a boss or a leader who displays these traits try and understand the good intention and long term vision behind the drive and not take things too personally.

Nine and the Three of Cups

A splash of colour was in order after a week of serious contemplation of light and shadow energies and so I decided to turn to my colourful Morgan Greer tarot deck for some insight into this weekend.

The first card is the Nine of Cups and this one represents pleasure and emotional contentment. Your cups of happiness are full and flowing. There's a general feeling of relaxation and good cheer and you're ready to let your hair down after a week of hard work. This is a wish fulfillment card so expect some desires to come to fruition. Rekindling old friendships and romance is likely as you are generous with your affections and uninhibited in expressing your love. Even if some of you are not out celebrating with friends and family but alone at home, there's an air of self indulgent comfort about you and simple acts like enjoying a meal or drink, watching a movie or just lazing around the house seem to fill you with great joy. Enjoy this moment for it is as fleeting as it is real. Don't forget there is always a Monday just waiting round the bend to end the party so while it lasts, make merry and spread the happiness around.

The other card is the Three of Cups and this too is a very positive card, showing abundance, enthusiasm and emotional connection with friends or family. Make sure you get plently of that and have a blast sharing stories and anecdotes with friends. You're promised a shoulder to cry on in case of need. It's time to recognize and appreciate your emotional support system. Business networking would also work in your favour. There's not much chance of anything coming in the way of your enjoyment this weekend. The only thing to avoid is overindulgence of any sort whether it is related to diet or emotional expressions. With all those cups filled to the brim anyone could go overboard. Eat and drink in moderation, especially the latter as you could spill over a lot of water energy in your exuberant state so spirits may need to be kept in check this weekend :-)

Seven of Wands and the Devil

Today I am using the Robinwood tarot deck to get some insight into the positive and negative energies of the day that would manifest as strengths and weaknesses.

The first card is the Seven of Wands and this shows a man guarding his territory against outside forces and trying to establish his supremacy. This card is about defending yourself against external attacks and proving your might. This has all the fiery energy of the wands so this will be a day full of action. You would feel a surge of energy and inspiration today to stand up for a just cause for yourself or others. You would be assertive and confident of your ability to get what you want. Arguments with colleagues, friends and family members are likely. You have the opportunity to display your leadership skills today. Just be aware that not everything may be a matter of life and death or important in your overall scheme of things so choose your battles wisely. Try not to rush into something that can resolve on its own or let undue aggression cause a rift in a close relationship. Also, consuming all your energy in trivial issues may lead to stress so reserve that fire within you for what matters the most. You clearly will lead from the front today and force people to pay attention to your demands.

The other card is the Devil and this being earth energy is likely to bring a stubbornness to your aggression today. That means you might find it hard to let go of an argument or back off when things need a time out. Remember you have the choice to walk away any time you want. Try not to let your ego egg you on in the wrong direction. The more you listen to the ego the more you are likely to find yourself entrapped by its false promises and unrealistic expectations. Take some time out to analyze and review your motives. What point are you trying to prove and why? Is it necessary? Is it good? Is it wise? Seven of Swords and the Two of Cups

I am using the Anna K Tarot deck to get some insight into the energies that may manifest as opportunities and challenges today.

The first card is the Seven of Swords and this shows a figure climbing down a ladder, trying to make off with a load of treasure, a sly expression of triumph on his face. This is a card of stealth and secrecy and is often associated with theft, dishonourable motives or deceit. But today it represents opportunities and I get a strong sense of plans going in your favour today and especially plans that you have kept to yourself so far. There may be some selfish motives involved such as outwitting someone or it could be something innocuous meant for fun. Like planning a surprise birthday party for a loved one or something more serious like withholding important information from someone. Whatever your reason, you are likely to get away with it today. You may also get an opportunity to bask in someone else's glory or get credit for someone else's work. Try and return the favour in some way, if possible, it will earn you goodwill in the long run. This is a good day to gain someone's trust in a relationship, charm your client or negotiate an important deal.

The second card is the Two of Cups which, as the picture so clearly shows, is all about relationships and partnerships. It could represent a personal or romantic relationship, collaboration with a friend, a work place interaction with your colleague or boss, or a business partnership. This is a very positive card but today this shows the challenges and attitudes you need to guard against. It may have some basis in the lack of integrity represented in the first card. Review and assess your motives and expectations from this relationship. If you are coming from a place of mistrust and selfish motives expect to be repaid in kind. However, if your intention is clear and positive there may be nothing to worry about as the two of cups represents a very equal partnership based on give and take. There could be trivial disagreements as both sides may have a strong sense of individual identity. Try not to let a third party take advantage of any communication issues between you and your partner. Make sure to focus on the positive aspect of this union of opposites instead of sweating the small stuff today.

Overall the air energy of the swords and the water energy of the cups make this an interesting day full of mental stimulation and emotional highs. Make sure to use these energies in a positive way and have a fabulous day!

Seven of Pentacles and the Page of Cups

I am using the pretty Crystal Visions tarot deck to tune into the positive and negative energies of the day.

The first card is the Seven of Pentacles and this represents the opportunities that may manifest today. And today I get a sense of several options being made available for you to choose. This could be with regards to money, health, family relationships and all material and physical asssets you own or work with. So you would have access to many resources today and may feel the need for a change in your lifestyle patterns. You could be in a contemplative mood as you review and assess your priorities and consider the different paths available to you to make that change you desire. You may be feeling a bit stuck and bored of the stability your current life has offered you so far. You know deep down it may be time to move on to something else but you may feel reluctant to rock the boat and take some concrete action in that direction. Take your time and consider all options carefully and with a long term view of the consequences. You may need a short break to rejuvenate and get a fresh perspective on things so do something light and relaxing today to recharge your batteries and come back feeling energized.

The other card is the Page of Cups and this carries the energy of the water element that is not yet fully developed. It relates to the emotional and intuitive aspect of your personality and has a very soft, receptive quality about it. You could find your feelings susceptible to outside influences today so avoid being too sensitive or taking things very seriously. There may be a heightened awareness of your vulnerability at this time and you may feel dependent on people close to you for constant reassurance. You may also go through some mood swings during the course of the day, getting inexplicably joyful one moment and despondent the other. This may be a little annoying to those close to you. If someone is curt to you as a result of this try and not take their sharp words to heart. The Page of Cups is also a card of creativity so you may find new, creative ideas come easily to you today. Just make sure to back some of those with action otherwise they may not materialize in a real sense.

Both Pentacles (earth) and Cups (water) are passive, receptive energies so you may feel energy and passion a bit diminished today. However, there is a good balance between the emotional and the practical so you would feel grounded and a sense of security. Try and avoid actual decision making before you have thought well about the matter and weighed all pros and cons rationally.
